A newly-elected Reform UK councillor in Wakefield has shared racist and Islamophobic posts online, as well as posts supporting prominent far-right activists and politicians.
Brett Muscroft, the new Reform UK councillor for the Castleford Central & Glasshoughton ward, features as one of a slew of more than 30 scandal-hit Reform candidates to have been elected for the party earlier this month. They have faced a litany of allegations of sharing hateful material online, despite Reform’s spokesperson for Home Affairs Zia Yusuf stating that the party has the “best vetting in the country”.
Muscroft, who describes himself as ‘a 20+ year army veteran’, was elected to Wakefield Council earlier this month. In his candidate’s statement on the WhoCanIVoteFor website, he expresses disapproval of a decline in “respect and discipline”.
He says he wants to “take pride in where we live, working together as a community to install pride, respect, discipline and getting to know each other will give us all an insight to life from someone else’s perspective.”
However, a Facebook account in his name, which appears to have been locked down following approaches by this outlet, has included deeply offensive content targeting Muslims, and to express support for infamous leaders of British far-right movements past and present.

In one post, the account describes how “Britain has looked like a third world shit hole like Pakistan Kenya etc since Pakistan and far east have settled in UK”, adding that the perception of changes in how communities look in the country is “disgraceful”.
His account also features a post which states “I will not submit to Islam in my own country”, and another, depicting a bottle of Glenfiddich whisky with the accompanying caption “Finally, a 12 year old that a Muslim won’t touch!”, as well as other offensive content, including a ‘joke’ that a “cannibal tribe in New Guinea confirms they’re willing to take five refugees per week” – seemingly implying that they would be eaten.
And the account posted an AI generated picture of Prime Minister Keir Starmer wearing a T-shirt which reads “I Love Pakistani Gang Rapists”.
On multiple occasions, Muscroft’s Facebook profile features admiration for a number of prominent figures on the far-right, including those currently considered to be rivals of his own party.
One post shared from the ‘Proud to be British’ page reads “Enoch Powell warned us” along with the message “there will be a coloured majority”, as well as multiple posts calling to “Free Tommy”, referring to the far-right activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (AKA Tommy Robinson). Robinson was jailed for contempt of court, after repeating libellous claims made against a Syrian schoolboy, breaching an injunction.
Don’t miss a story

The account’s output also includes a number of posts promoting the UK Independence Party (UKIP) and its new leader since February 2025, Nick Tenconi. Under his leadership, UKIP has moved further to the right, speaking at anti-migrant protests, and storming a church that was hosting an anti-racism meeting (no criminality was found on Tenconi’s part, but four anti-migrant activists were convicted over the incident last month).
Tenconi has also led far-right activists to Calais to harass and in his words “hunt” people trying to cross the English channel.
Under Tenconi’s leadership, UKIP has stated that “5-10 million” people would need to be deported from the country. The upper end of this figure would constitute about one in seven of the entire UK population. One of the UKIP posts apparently shared by the account in 2025 reads that the party is “taking our country back, one city at a time”.
The account also shares content in support of Rupert Lowe, arguably the most extreme sitting MP, and leader of the far-right Restore Britain party calling for mass deportations.
A spokesperson for the campaign organisation HOPE not hate said the posts were “abhorrent and have no place in our politics.”
“He is another example in the long list of totally unsuitable recently elected Reform councillors. Once again, the question is, why do extremists like Muscroft flock to Farage’s party?
“Reform keep claiming they have the best vetting in the country, but people like Muscroft should have never been allowed to stand in this election. Reform need to act and suspend him immediately.”
The Reform Party and Brett Muscroft did not respond to requests for comment.
