Conservatives Risk Another Chris Pincher-Style Sleaze Scandal Over Claims New Tory MP Is ‘Serial Groper and Bully’

The allegations could be a ‘huge headache’ for the Conservative Party as it tries to move on from the scandals of its recent past

Byline Times is an independent, reader-funded investigative newspaper, outside of the system of the established press, reporting on ‘what the papers don’t say’ – without fear or favour.

A new Conservative MP elected to Parliament in last month’s General Election has been the subject of a series of allegations of sexual assault, and racist, sexist, and bullying behaviour, Byline Times can reveal.

The MP – one of just 121 Conservatives elected to Parliament in July – is claimed to have groped at least three men he has worked with during the past five years, with one making a complaint to local party leaders, who failed to act.

Byline Times knows the identity of the man but cannot name him for legal reasons.

He is also alleged to have sent unsolicited photos of a sexual nature to a constituent via social media.

The Conservative Party has been aware of these allegations since at least 6 June this year, when this newspaper informed a party official and asked what action it planned to take. Byline Times did not receive a response.

When approached for comment for this article, the party again failed to respond.

“This is the sort of behaviour which, when Chris Pincher was accused of it, saw Boris Johnson have to quit as Prime Minister, and the Conservative Party cannot ignore it forever – particularly a new leader who will naturally want to bill themselves as tough on sleaze – because, without doubt, it will come out,” a source told Byline Times.

Boris Johnson: The Anti-Prime Minister

Jonathan Lis explains why Boris Johnson’s lack of interest in leading the UK in any meaningful way is the role he always wanted – and how the public and media are playing along

“When it does, it will be a huge headache for CCHQ at a time when the party is divided and trying to move on from years of this kind of behaviour, as they elect a new leader.

“Yet, the feeling is this is just one of a number of Tory MPs likely to be exposed for their questionable past behaviour. It could spell further disaster for the Conservatives.”

Former Conservative MP Chris Pincher resigned as a Government Deputy Chief Whip on 30 June 2022, after he admitted that he had “drunk far too much” the night before at the Carlton Club, a private members’ club in London, and having “embarrassed [himself] and other people”. It was alleged that he had groped two men. He was suspended as a Tory MP but remained in Parliament as an independent.

Days later, six new allegations against Pincher surfaced, and it soon emerged that then Prime Minister Boris Johnson had been briefed in advance. The scandal resulted in Johnson announcing his resignation as Conservative Party Leader and Prime Minister.
