Brutal Reality

Not for the first time, Peter Oborne (‘Diary’, 20 August 2026) draws attention to the intellectual strengths of the Iranian leadership, as compared with that of the USA. However, his point is rather undermined by the facts that this sophisticated leadership runs a brutally oppressive domestic regime and aims for the obliteration of another state (Israel). This merely serves to demonstrate that education is no predictor of moral virtue.
